CR might be the strongest tool in the shed. According to my information guru Peter Attia, it's the one tool few can argue against; it works effectively to prevent and shrink cancer tumors. The main issue, as he states is, we don't know how to properly *dose* it yet. That said, it's safe to experiment with and might just help, as long as I keep an eye on my weight and don't sacrifice muscle mass. CR is not intermittent fasting, although they are complimentary. CR is simply running a total daily calorie deficit on what you would normally need given age/weight/activity levels. Right now I'm running about a 20-40% deficit, with little weight loss. ### CR adaptations diagram This diagram shows the various adaptations our bodies make under CR conditions. As you can see there are several important pathways affected (PI3K, mTOR, RAS/MAPK), as well as important cellular effects like increased apoptosis. ![](../attachments/Pathway%20driver%20effects%20from%20fasting%20-%20image.png) Source: [Cancer and Fasting / Calorie Restriction | UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health](https://osher.ucsf.edu/patient-care/integrative-medicine-resources/cancer-and-nutrition/faq/cancer-and-fasting-calorie-restriction)
