Vitamin E seems to have some protective benefit against neuropathy, a common side effect of [chemotherapy](../3.6%20%20Standard%20care/Chemotherapy.md). Pretty safe and seems to be no reasons to avoid it during chemo.
### Vitamin E for the Prevention of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy: A meta-Analysis
Animal studies have suggested that antioxidant supplementation can provide protection against various chemotherapy toxicities associated with oxidative stress. Vitamin E, one of the most widely studied antioxidants, contains tocopherols and tocotrienols, and the most biologically active component of vitamin E is alpha-tocopherol. The results of one clinical study demonstrated that plasma levels of vitamin E decreased significantly in cancer patients who developed severe neuropathy after cisplatin treatment. Studies have shown that vitamin E deficiency affects the central and peripheral nervous systems and might lead to peripheral neuropathy. Therefore, it was thought that vitamin E supplementation could prevent the development of CIPN or alleviate existing CIPN-related symptoms. Additionally, studies have confirmed that vitamin E can be used safely and effectively in CIPN caused by taxanes and cisplatin.
