This note is to capture general information on antioxidants, which is a big category of substances that have many roles in health.
They are of particular interest in relation to cancer. Oxidative pathways and processes play key roles in cancer growth and death. There is some controversy particularly around whether antioxidants are beneficial or not in [chemotherapy](../3.6%20%20Standard%20care/Chemotherapy.md). Some [chemotherapy](../3.6%20%20Standard%20care/Chemotherapy.md) drugs use oxidative effects to kill cancer cells, and so the idea (mislead fear?) is that taking antioxidants will somehow protect cancer cells. Many reputable scientific sources debunk this, but shockingly many oncologists still believe it and will tell you not to take them.
